Vaccinations and Flea Prevention

Dogs that come to Dogtown Cincinnati must be in good health.  They must remain current on Rabies, DHLPP (Distemper/Parvo), and Bordetella vaccinations.  Proof of vaccinations must be kept on file and up to date.  If your dog’s vaccinations expire, your dog will not be allowed into our facility.  Additionally, we recommend that owners have their pets on a scheduled flea and heartworm program.  Dogtown Cincinnati will gladly administer owner-provided flea and heartworm treatment for regular customers.  In a busy world, owners can forget.  If fleas or ticks are found on your dog, well will let you know. Your dog will either need to be taken home right away, or we will give him/her a flea bath at your expense.

Cleanliness Policy

Keeping your dog clean is not only good for our environment, but it is better for your household as well.  We offer inexpensive programs where we take on the responsibility of keeping your dog clean and groomed.  Some dogs need to be brushed every day.  We will handle your dog’s upkeep for you for a reasonable charge based on the breed.  We recommend that your dog has a regular grooming or bathing schedule at Dogtown Cincinnati that can be completed while he is at daycare.  Groomers work as handlers in the daycare as well.  Therefore, your dog will be cleaned and groomed by a person he knows, making the process much easier for dogs that typically fear groomers.  Once again, we never cage dogs.  If your dog is muddy, smelly, or dirty, we ask that you be courteous and clean him before dropping off, or schedule for us to do so.  We do everything we can to make our business home-like and odor-free!

Puppies

Puppies love doggie daycare.  However, they are sensitive and must be watched very carefully.  A traumatic experience to a puppy is much worse than one for an older dog.  Puppies must be at least 12 weeks of age to attend doggie daycare.  They must also have their vaccinations (including boosters) for a minimum of one week before they can attend doggie daycare.  For puppies under 15 weeks, we require a vet to give permission prior to attending daycare.  Puppies will be separated from older dogs until they are deemed ready to join the pack by our staff.

Older Dogs

Older dogs may not fit in at regular daycares.  On the other hand, older dogs can benefit greatly from the exercise that daycare provides.  Dogtown Cincinnati considers these dogs a sensitive subject.  We watch older dogs for signs of lethargy.  Older dogs will get less active play time in the main daycare spaces than younger dogs.  We have set aside an area for older dogs where they can lounge on beds and watch TV.  This is a place for them to get away from the energetic younger dogs and relax.  When bringing an older dog to daycare for his first time, be aware that the situation may not work out for him, but we will do our best to make him totally comfortable in our facility.

Spay/neuter policy

At Dogtown Cincinnati, dogs over 6 months must be fixed.  By having this policy in place, we deter behavioral problems that are hormonal.  If we were to let un-altered dogs into our daycare, we would see lots of new (mixed) puppies and lots of aggressive behavior between un-altered males.

Dog Requirements

We put strict requirements in place to keep your dogs safe and healthy.  By knowing that the other dogs at the facility are clean, vaccinated, and evaluated, you will feel more at ease about the well-being of your dog!
